The role of the Residential Family Assessment Centre Lead Assessor is to ensure that family assessments are carried out within timescales and according to statutory and regulatory requirements. The Lead Assessor will be a qualified social worker available to support families in addressing their assessment goals and action plans in line with the family placement plan. The Lead Assessor will ensure that assessment planning takes place over 12 weeks, within court timelines and that assessments are robust, fair and evidence-based.

The Residential Family Centre Lead Assessor will demonstrate that they have the essential skills to support the leadership and management of the centre within their remit such that the centre has the capacity and capability to meet the Residential Family Centres National Minimum Standards and The Residential Family Centres Regulations 2002 and amendment 2013.
